About Safe Sprouts

In high-pressure moments, clarity comes from structure and practise, not information alone.

Kat Mason

FOUNDER, SAFE SPROUTS

I'm a registered paramedic and clinical educator with more than two decades of emergency care experience, and a deep belief that how you learn first aid matters as much as what you learn.

Safe Sprouts exists because I have spent years teaching paramedic students across Australian universities how to perform clinical skills under pressure. When I became a parent myself, I looked at what was available for South Australian families and saw a gap between what parents were being offered and the standard I knew was possible.

So I built something different.

My career has spanned over 2 decades working across emergency care, academia, and clinical education as a road paramedic, a defence force medic, and for twelve years teaching into both nursing and paramedic degrees across Australia.

I hold a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education, a postgraduate qualification specifically in how to teach clinical skills to humans, not just how to perform them. I also hold a Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic) and a Bachelor of Medical Science, and I'm registered with AHPRA.

I represent the Australasian College of Paramedicine on the Australian Resuscitation Council SA Branch, the body responsible for Australia's resuscitation guidelines. That involvement keeps Safe Sprouts content current, evidence-based, and aligned with national best practice.

Becoming a parent reshaped how I think about teaching. When it's your own child, information alone isn't enough. You need clarity, structure, and the kind of practised response that holds up under stress. That's what Safe Sprouts is built to give you.

What makes Safe Sprouts different isn't just who teaches it. It's how it's taught.

Most first aid education focuses on information. Safe Sprouts is built around performance: what you can actually do when you're frightened, when it's your child, and time is of essence.

Every Safe Sprouts program is designed around that principle.

Our educators

Safe Sprouts workshops are delivered exclusively by experienced paramedics, all with years of paediatric emergency care. Every educator is selected and trained to deliver the same structured, evidence-based approach, so the standard remains consistent no matter who is teaching.

Our goal

You can't control everything that happens in your baby's first year. But you can control how prepared you are when it does. Safe Sprouts exists to give you that preparation: the knowledge, the practice, and the confidence that you are enough.
