What is The First Year?
Nobody hands you a manual when your baby arrives. The First Year, our flagship infant first aid and safety course, is the closest thing there is.
The First Year is:
✔️ Led by registered health professionals with paediatric emergency qualifications and experience. Your educator has spent their career managing the exact situations you are here to learn about.
✔️ Focused exclusively on the first year, because babies are not just small children. The risks, illnesses and injuries in this stage are unique.
✔️ A 3.5 hour hands-on workshop delivered as a small group, in a relaxed environment.
✔️ Supported by online lessons and 12 months of live Q&A masterclasses.
✔️ Includes a dedicated topic on managing yourself under pressure, because staying calm is a skill too.
I can already say that it’s some of the best money we have spent while preparing for our first child. We both learnt so much and I feel significantly more prepared to respond to all sorts of scary situations! Highly recommend!

The First Year Roadmap
Becoming a new parent is overwhelming enough. The last thing you need is a course that adds to that. The First Year is intentionally sequenced so that each topic builds upon the last. Starting with the skills you need from day one, and growing with your baby from there.
Foundations
Infant CPR, safer sleep, water safety, car restraint safety and responding under pressure.
Illness
Recognising breathing problems, fevers and seizures.
Injuries
Responding to burns, head injuries, button batteries and poisoning.
Starting Solids
Choking prevention, choking response and allergic reactions.
The 3 R's
Information overload helps no one. That is why every topic in The First Year follows the same simple framework. Meet the 3 R's:
Reduce
Lower the risk
For every topic, we always cover prevention. Because the best emergency is the one that never happens.
Recognise
Know the signs
Know when to call your GP, when to go to hospital, and when to take a reassured breath because you've now learnt how to manage this one at home.
Respond
Act with confidence
Every topic includes guided practice scenarios and hands-on skills. So if you ever need to use them, you will have already been there before.
More Than a Workshop
True confidence takes repetition and time. The questions you have when your baby is 6 weeks old will be completely different to the ones you have when they are 6 months old. The First Year is designed to grow with you. We are here for the entire first year, not just one day.
Some topics are delivered through your online lessons rather than in the workshop, so you can work through them at home at your own pace. For a full breakdown of what is covered in person and what is online, see our FAQ below.
3.5 hour hands-on workshop
Forget rows of chairs and death by PowerPoint. Our workshops are small, relaxed and very hands-on. You will spend most of your time actually practising skills, not watching someone present them.
Thinking Under Stress
Staying calm under pressure is a skill. Like any skill, it can be learned and practised. We dedicate an entire topic to it, because in an emergency, managing yourself always comes before managing the situation.
Online Lessons
Videos and downloadable guides on your phone, always up to date as guidelines evolve. Revisit any topic, any time, as your baby grows and new questions come up. Lifetime Access.
Ongoing Support
12 months of quarterly live Q&A masterclasses where you can ask questions, revisit topics and keep learning. Because we are here for the entire first year, not just one day.

"The hands-on approach and practical simulations were invaluable, especially the baby CPR manikins.
I highly recommend Safe Sprouts. The experience left me feeling confident and well-prepared to handle various emergency situations. An outstanding first aid training!"

"I learnt so much more than just CPR on a baby, ranging from allergies, car seat safety and fevers (and more!). It was very relatable and the group felt comfortable to ask any question big or small.
Would recommend all parents to complete this course!"
-Mrs V, first time parent
"The workshop was really informative, and she made the experience relaxed and fun. I came out of it feeling much more confident to help my little ones should they ever need it! Would highly recommend to anyone."
-Kirsty, first time parent
"We absolutely loved this course; perhaps the best few hours spent on something in a long time. We learned a lot, from how to pick a car seat to dealing with choking, CPR on manikins (that provided feedback to our phones if we are doing it right) and much more, and now feel so much more confident and knowledgeable when it comes to addressing difficult situations."
